Berry White® Panicle Hydrangea

There are many reasons why Berry White® Panicle Hydrangea is a #RockStarPlant. But, to begin with, just look at it!

It’s no wonder why Better Homes & Gardens named it a favorite. But, it’s not just the looks that make this a rock star in the garden. Berry White® is a booming sensation. In the summer, the flowers open white and then age to pink, red, and eventually a deep wine in the fall when the evening temperatures cool down. As an important bonus, Berry White® has extremely strong stems, so you don’t have to worry about those beautiful blooms flopping. And it’s not just the stems that are strong. Berry White® is a hard-working plant, which means you spend less time caring for it and more time admiring it!

Whether you already have them in your space or are looking for your next statement plant, here is how to get the most out of your Berry White® Panicle Hydrangeas.

Site Selection & Planting

Plant Berry White® in an area that receives full sun. It will also perform well in part shade, but make sure it gets a healthy dose of sunlight if you do that. Berry White® grows to a height of 6-7′ and width of 4-5′, making it a great choice for border and privacy plantings. Wherever it gets planted, give the plant some space to grow. While it will tolerate some drought, it’s also best to plant in well-drained soil. We recommend getting Berry White® in the ground either in spring or autumn, applying a slow-release fertilizer every spring. Review our Planting & Care Guide for more information on how to apply fertilizer, as well as other planting and care tips.

Pruning

Whatever you do, do not prune in the fall! To help Berry White® grow strong stems, prune in late winter or early spring when the plant is dormant. Watch our video on how to prune panicle hydrangeas for best practices.

Beautify Your Home

The blooms on Berry White® are spectacular on the plant but also make stunning decorations when brought inside. Use them in your next flower arrangement or cut and dry the blooms to make fabulous fall and winter decor. Watch our video on how to dry hydrangea blooms for tips and inspiration.
